R&D workshop reports

In this article, we present the challenges that the PULLZONE development team faced in the R&D phase. The goal of the development group was to offer the market a device for handling all types of sheet metal, which does not damage the lacquered surface on the outside of the sheet metal.

Our customers most often use TheONE 600 to repair car sheet metal damaged by hail.

The technical problem that theONE 600 successfully solves is the precisely controlled heat treatment of the bulge without damaging any varnish on the visible surface. The technician usually performs the repair by sliding the graphite electrode at the bow of the injury. At the point of contact, micro-arc flames appear between the electrode and the sheet metal, which heats the place in question by fine-tuning the output power. This process prevents the sheet metal from overheating, leaving the varnish on the outside undamaged. The micro-arc metal heater allows the release of the resulting stresses in the material at the bulge site and, with controlled uniform heating, causes the damage to be settled until complete compensation.

TheONE 600W device consists of a compact high-resistance metal housing, a power transformer with two primary windings, an electronic control circuit with an LCD, a power switch, a power adjustment potentiometer and a fuse. Two power connectors are mounted on the metal housing. The connectors have a plug for connecting cables to the holders. One connector serves as a ground and the other as an electrode holder. The electrode is intended for the repair of damaged sheet metal.

Cable positions can be arbitrary. Since the body housings are made of various metallic materials such as steel, aluminium, stainless steel and others, graphite electrodes in copper foil are also selected accordingly. The handles that serve consist of an insulated housing and an aluminium conductive part to which the cables are connected. The metal part of the handle that serves as a mass is designed so that it can be mounted on the body with a magnet or via a groove with additional suitable tools. The electrode mounting bracket is designed so that the electrode can be inserted directly into the metal part or via a different adjustable movable part. The flexible movable part serves to tilt the electrode appropriately for easier access to the repair area. On the metal part of the holder, there are grooves to install additional tools and electrode holders.
